What is breast augmentation?

Placement of the implant: Next, your surgeon will create a pocket in the breast tissue, either behind the breast tissue or underneath the chest muscle, and insert the implant into the pocket. The type and size of the implant will depend on your desires, body shape, and surgeon recommendations.

Closure: Once your implant is in place, your surgeon will close the incision with sutures or surgical tape. A sterile dressing or surgical bra will be placed over the incision site to help support the breasts and promote healing.

Different Types of Breast Implants

Now, depending on your desires there are two main materials used for breast implants, saline, and silicone.

Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution (saline) after being placed in the breast pocket during surgery. The outer shell of the implant is made of silicone, which can be either smooth or textured.

Often used in breast reconstruction surgeries, saline implants are available in a variety of sizes and shapes and can be customized to fit your individual needs and preferences.

Silicone breast implants are filled with a silicone gel rather than saline. The outer shell of the implant is also made of silicone.

Similar to saline implants, silicone implants are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and textures, and can be customized to fit your desires. Now, some patients prefer to opt for silicone implants as they closely resemble natural breast tissue in look and feel.

There are also different shapes of breast implants available including round, and teardrop. Your chosen surgeon will discuss each option with you in detail during your consultation to ensure you are comfortable.

Aftercare and Risk

Following the procedure, you will be monitored in a recovery room for a few hours before being sent home. Typically, you should be able to resume normal activities within a few days, although strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks.

Now, breast augmentation is one of the safest procedures on the market, with complications being rare. However, it is important to remember that like all medical procedures, breast augmentations do carry a risk of complication.
